10 Tips For Overpowering The Job Search Blues

Every day on my social media feed I see a lot of postings about seeking new job positions.   I understand this is a stressful time and you want to give up.  So, I want to spread some positive vibes and share some tips to overpowering the job search blues.

Presently, I’ve been unemployed for 6 months due to being laid off because the company lost the contract. Right now, I’m going through a long clearance sponsorship process, which is taking longer than expected. Being patient and overcoming discouragement during this process is imperative. I’m speaking my goals into the universe and hopefully start April or May 2019. Instead, of letting that negative energy take over my life. I started using my time wisely encouraging more positive energy into my life. Today, I wanted to share my 10 tips for the job search blues.

  1. Start a Hobby or a Business – I enjoy pet sitting and creating all-natural products for myself and pets as well.  During this process I have created some more products for my business Peaceful Paws Natural Care LLC.
  2. Attending Cyber events- It’s very important to start attending cyber events in your area. Attending these events allows you to keep current on trends and network.
  3. Using LinkedIn to your advantage – I’ve had my LinkedIn account for a couple of years, but it wasn’t until recently that I started to conduct my online presence. I started to connect with recruiters, commented on various people post, and started a blog.
  4. Volunteering – If you are new to the cyber industry volunteering, is a great way to connect with other professionals.  In the past years I have volunteered for STEM-ING events involving young girls, speaking at a local high school to sharing my cybersecurity experience.  
  5. Positive Affirmations – Every morning I go to Pinterest and look up positive affirmations to get my day started.
  6. Finally, my fur baby Buster!!!
  7. Learning new skills- I recently started studying for the AWS Cloud Practitioner Exam.
  8. Mentoring- In my spare time next to updated my blog with new stories, I also took it upon myself to mentor cyber professionals that reach out to me.
  9. Invested in a Resume Writer- During my job search my current resume was getting results, however I wanted to improve my results so I invested in a Resume Writer.
  10. Know your worth- While job searching you must do your research, know what you bring to the table, ( knowledge, personality, salary, and experience).
Unemployed for 6 months
