What is a Cloud? In meteorology a cloud is a visible volume of liquid droplets, frozen crystals, and other molecules. Nevertheless, in cybersecurity the cloud holds a different definition. This term is used to describe on demand delivery of IT resources and applications via the internet. This blog will be a series to understand the basics of cloud computing, certifications for the cloud, and bring awareness to career opportunities within this area. Remember my articles are high level, I have a short attention span Ha!
Cloud Computing
This technology provides a simple way to gain access to servers, storage, databases and a set of application services over the internet. It also allows companies to reduce costs and access the resources you need.
Types of Cloud Computing
In cloud computing there are several different models to meet the needs of different users. Understanding these types of models are very important for cyber professionals. There are three models Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Software as a Service.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
First Infrastructure as a Service, this service is known for being the building blocks for cloud information technology. It also provides access to network features, computers, and data storage space.
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
Second, Platform as a Service, this service allows a business to remove the needs for personnel to manage the infrastructure (hardware and operating systems).
Software as a Service (SaaS)
Third, Software as a Service, this service is a completed product that is managed by the service provider for instance, Amazon or Microsoft.
Overall, the cloud is an emerging technology that cyber professionals will need to acquire knowledge. More companies will want to invest in these services because it will cut costs, pay as you go, and secure information. Cyber professionals should also be informed on what type of certifications are being provided in this area. I just started studying for the AWS Cloud Practitioner Exam and I’m excited to share my progress with other cyber professionals. The following series will discuss certifications for the cloud.
Thank you for sharing your journey.
