How I Learned About Cryptocurrency

How Did I Get Started

I got started in cryptocurrency by attending a networking event for art event at the Bentley Dealership back in Oct 2019.  I was networking with people and met a woman named Ansylla. She mentioned her business Cryptovibez that educated black women about investing in cryptocurrency.  Since I knew this was a new concept to learn, I decided to enroll in the course. Next, I will share what I learned from the course and the book.

Cryptocurrency 101 Course &  Start Your Crypto Journey By Ansylla Ramsey

Ansylla R.

Being black people in this world, we are often left behind on the latest technology and building generational wealth.  Therefore, you must be willing to get outside of your comfort zone and learn something new to break the cycle.

These two resources created by Ansylla were beneficial to assisting me on this new journey of financial freedom. I recently purchased her eBook this year.

The book covers three main concepts

  • Understanding the basics
    • What is Cryptocurrency?
  • Acquire Cryptocurrency
    • Choosing what kind of exchanges you want to use to buy crypto. Some exchanges to consider is coinbase and crypto.com
    • Evaluating what kind of cryptocurrency to invest in takes time to research. Conduct research on whitepapers and how active the community is on social media
    • Get paid in cryptocurrency from providing freelance work
  • Secure Your Assets
    • Online Wallets ( Hot Wallets), for example, a coinbase wallet
    • Hardware Wallets ( Cold Wallets), for example, Ledger device

For more in-depth knowledge, I recommend reading her eBook. It’s excellent for beginners, straightforward steps to follow, and resources to assist in your research. Given these tips how did I apply this knowledge to start my 1st investment.

Applying the Knowledge

Even though I had the resources, I decided to go with Robinhood due to my previously invested stocks.  The first coin on this exchange I invested in was Dogecoin.

Dogecoin

At the time, a friend suggested it, and I said YOLO ( You only live once). It was .07 cents at the time in 2019. During this time, small recurring amounts added up. In May 2021, this coin, due to the hype, increased in value  0.75 cents! As a result, I invested $300 over a year and a half and made 20k!  After that, I wanted to learn more and knew I needed to reference the eBook to learn more about different exchanges. Robinhood did not have a wallet to transfer coins to a different wallet.

Hence, I decided to go with Coinbase. This exchange was user-friendly; you can learn about different coins and earn rewards from reading the blogs.  Coinbase also has a wallet and a debit card. What I like about the debt card because you can earn rewards on various crypto coins on purchases.  At this present time, I have mines set up to earn rewards on Ethereum (ETH).

 Below are some additional resources

Currently, I’m still learning about crypto and realized that cybersecurity professionals are also needed in this space

In conclusion, this is a new and exciting topic to learn about.  Now there is a technical side to this as well with blockchain technology.

Join me on my next blog, sharing how I purchased a few Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT) on the Solana blockchain.

  1. Katia this is great information, I kind of started my journey with crypto by investing a small sum thru the cash app. I felt really nervous about it because I simply didn’t know enough about it so I told myself I needed to educate myself about this particular investment medium when I had the bandwidth. I will most certainly be on the lookout for more of your posts and journey in investing in crypto and most certainly the career aspects.

    Thank you for sharing!!

    1. Thank you! My next blog will be about the Blockchain. Mind you I said that was BEYOND Me LOL. But here we are. Thanks for reading 🙂
